Gretzky, Gay Footballers, Winter Olympics Help Fuel Gambling911.com Traffic

Miami Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 14, 2006

Call it a case of the public’s insatiable appetite for gay English Premiership footballers, gambling hockey stars wives and a dash of actual sporting event game results, life continues long after the Super Bowl has been played out.

“Typically the amount of traffic drops for a few weeks following the Super Bowl,” commented Gambling911.com Founder and President, Christopher Costigan. “Some major sports-related scandals have helped maintain web site readership.”

So much so that the decrease in traffic this week over the prior week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday (traditionally the busiest traffic period of the year) was a mere 1.2%.

“The gambling ring scandal surrounding Wayne Gretzsy’s wife was a big story this week. More so, the scandal involving two Premiership football players reportedly caught on film having gay sex by the British tabloid News of the World, helped to solidify this past week’s traffic numbers even more.”

The gay footballers story that first appeared in News of the World delivered record traffic from Great Britain.

Normally comprising around 5% of Gambling911.com’s overall readership, the United Kingdom made up a whopping 22% of Sunday’s overall traffic. Canadian readership made up one quarter of Gambling911′s traffic on Saturday as a result of the Wayne Gretzsky coverage. Gretzsky of course has ties to Canadian hockey.

Extensive media coverage has further helped boost Gambling911.com traffic numbers. Costigan was interviewed live on Fox News Super Bowl Sunday. The web site has also been mentioned in Charlotte, North Carolina’s News and Observer and the Canadian Canoe Network’s popular Slam! Sports.

January 2006 recorded the largest traffic numbers since the site’s debut in September 2000. February appears to be on its way towards another record breaking month as well.

“The Academy Awards will take place on March 6 and this is one of the biggest betting events, in fact the biggest nonsporting event outside of the US Presidential race campaign wagering,” commented Costigan. “We anticipate a dramatic increase in readership during the second half of this month.”
