Ameristar East Chicago Announces $ 4.2 Million Hotel Room Renovation

East Chicago, IN (Vocus) June 2, 2010

Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago, known for its luxurious guest rooms and high quality amenities, announced plans for a $ 4.2 million hotel renovation project. Renovations will be completed in all of the hotel’s 280 superior guest rooms and 10 luxury suites. This will be the first refurbishment to the hotel since its opening in 2001.

“The newly renovated rooms will enhance the overall comfort of our guests and will add to our reputation as one of the premier hotel facilities in Northwest Indiana,” said Pete Savage, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ameristar East Chicago. “In addition, this project highlights our continued goal of delivering a high quality experience for our guests and providing outstanding amenities that assist our team in delivering exceptional guest service.”

The renovation plans feature all-new plush carpeting, decorative wall paper, enhanced light fixtures, 42-inch high-definition TV’s, and a new luxury bedding package, among other amenities. This $ 4.2 million project is scheduled to begin in July 2010 and follows nearly $ 1 million in improvements recently made to the air quality system throughout the four levels of the casino. An additional $ 800,000 in air quality improvements are also scheduled to be completed in the casino’s pavilion area. These projects are incremental to Ameristar’s initial $ 30 million in upgrades to the property during its rebranding in 2008.

These enhancements coincide with the recent implementation of reduced pricing in the Heritage Buffet, with lunch available for $ 10.99 every day, dinner for $ 12.99 Sunday through Friday, and the new $ 19.99 Seafood Buffet on Saturdays.

Mobility Authority Investment in Local Infrastructure Projects Tops $ 868 Million Design & Engineering Contracts Awarded for 183A Extension & Manor Expressway

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is making progress on plans to further improve mobility for the region. Recent actions by the Mobility Authority for design and engineering work on the 183A extension and the Manor Expressway have increased its investment in local infrastructure projects to more than $ 868 million. The Mobility Authority developed the first phase of 183A for $ 238 million, which opened to traffic in March 2007.

On Wednesday, August 27th the Mobility Authority Board of Directors awarded a design and engineering services contract to Rodriguez Transportation Group, Inc. (RTG) for a northern extension of the 183A toll road in Williamson County. Following an extensive evaluation process, RTG was selected as the winner over 21 total proposing firms. The approximately 4.5 mile, $ 101 million 183A extension will run from FM 1431 north to at least FM 2243 and could be under construction by 2009.

“We are very pleased to be driving the early extension of the 183A toll road,” said Mike Heiligenstein, Executive Director of the Mobility Authority. “Initially, the extension was not expected to be completed until 2017 but traffic on 183A has consistently exceeded projections since opening day. Customer demand for the extension and our commitment to customer service has made this project a priority for the Mobility Authority.”

Earlier this month the Mobility Authority also finalized contracts with three firms to provide design and engineering services for the $ 529 million Manor Expressway. Jacobs Engineering Group, LJA Engineering and KCI Kennedy Consulting will each design and provide engineering services for one of three segments of the project. The teams were selected from a total of 22 proposers.

The Manor Expressway is intended to alleviate congestion in the corridor, as traffic has increased 78% since 1990. As proposed, the Manor Expressway will be a 6.2-mile limited-access toll road with three lanes in each direction. It will be constructed in an expanded median of US 290 from US 183 to Parmer Lane. The existing US 290 will be improved and will remain non-tolled. Construction is expected to begin by late 2009 and could be open to traffic by 2013.

Both the Manor Expressway and the 183A extension will be funded, in part, through financing provided by JP Morgan Securities. The Mobility Authority selected the JP Morgan in April of this year to help find funding for more than $ 1.5 billion worth of expressway projects in Central Texas.

“Given the severe transportation financing limitations our region is facing, we are proud to be able to make the investment needed to bring these critical projects to the public,” said Heiligenstein. “Innovative financing has helped make it possible for the Mobility Authority to invest another $ 630 million in local infrastructure projects.”

The engineering components of these Mobility Authority projects will provide work to 17 local firms with 30% DBE participation for the Manor Expressway and 10 local firms with 60% DBE participation for the 183A extension.
